Penguasaan Mufradat: Efek Retrieval-Based Learning dan Spaced Practice Terhadap Akurasi-Retensi Bahasa Arab
Abstract
This study aims to determine the effect of retrieval-based learning with a spaced practice pattern on the retention and vocabulary (mufradat) mastery accuracy of eleventh-grade students at MAN 3 Bone. The study was initiated by the students' low ability to retain and accurately use mufradat in Arabic learning. This study employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method and a pretest-posttest control group design. The research population consisted of 90 eleventh-grade students at MAN 3 Bone, with a sample of 57 students divided into 29 students in class XI A6 as the experimental group and 28 students in class XI S3 as the control group. The experimental group was treated using retrieval-based learning with a spaced practice pattern, while the control group received conventional learning. Data were collected through a mufradat retention test, a mufradat mastery accuracy test, and observations, then analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Independent Sample t-Test. The results showed that retrieval-based learning with a spaced practice pattern had a significant effect on the students' Arabic mufradat retention and mastery accuracy. In the retention aspect, the Sig. (2-tailed) value was 0.000 < 0.05, with the experimental group’s delayed test average at 84.38 and the control group’s at 67.68. In the accuracy aspect, the Sig. (2-tailed) value was 0.000 < 0.05, with the experimental group’s posttest average at 88.48 and the control group’s at 73.50. The effect size calculation showed a Cohen's d value of 2.10 for retention and 2.85 for mufradat mastery accuracy, both falling into the very large category. Based on these results, it can be concluded that retrieval-based learning with a spaced practice pattern has a positive effect on the retention and vocabulary (mufradat) mastery accuracy of eleventh-grade students at MAN 3 Bone. The implication of this study indicates that active retrieval activities and scheduled intervals of repetition can serve as an alternative learning strategy to support more optimal and sustainable mufradat mastery.
