Kelisanan dan Fungsi Sastra Lisan Karungut di Kuala Pembuang Kabupaten Seruyan
Abstract
Abstract
This study examines the orality and functions of oral literature in karungut in Kuala Pembuang, Seruyan Regency. The research focuses on (1) the characteristics of orality in karungut based on Walter J. Ong's nine psychodynamic features, and (2) the functions of oral literature based on Hutomo's theory, namely as a system of projection, a means of cultural validation, a means of enforcing social norms and social control, and a means of educating children. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Primary data were obtained through observation of six videos of karungut performances, while supporting data were obtained through interviews with pangarungut and maestro. The results show that all characteristics of psychodynamic orality were found in the data corpus, with the additive feature being the most dominant, confirming karungut's status as secondary orality. All four functions of oral literature proposed by Hutomo were also found, with cultural validation as the most dominant function. The characteristics of orality and the functions of oral literature in karungut are proven to be interwoven in every performance event, confirming that the logic of orality does not disappear when oral literature comes into contact with literacy, but rather transforms into a secondary orality that remains functional amid the currents of modernization.
