Penerapan Strategi Membaca 4S Sebagai Teknik Membaca Cepat dalam Meningkatkan Pemahaman Bacaan Siswa Kelas XI SMA Negeri 3 Tasikmalaya
Abstract
Penelitian ini mencoba melihat bagaimana metode membaca 4S (skimming, scanning, picking, dan skipping) membantu pemahaman bacaan siswa kelas sebelas di SMA Negeri 3 Tasikmalaya. Berdasarkan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif, data dikumpulkan melalui observasi dan catatan ketika strategi 4S diterapkan pada teks eksplanasi “Fenomena Aurora Borealis: Cahaya Ajaib di Langit Utara.” Sebanyak sembilan belas siswa terlibat dalam penelitian ini. Proses penerapannya meliputi empat tahap membaca dan tes pemahaman untuk menentukan pemahaman siswa terhadap teks tersebut. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, strategi tersebut secara signifikan membantu siswa dalam pemahaman bacaan mereka karena 13 siswa memperoleh skor lengkap 100, dan 6 siswa memperoleh skor 90, dengan skor estimasi rata-rata 96,8. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa setiap elemen strategi 4S secara sinergis efektif dalam mempercepat pemahaman dan membaca. Lebih lanjut, selama kegiatan berlangsung, siswa menjadi lebih fokus, penuh perhatian, dan terlibat. Beberapa siswa kurang memahami perbedaan antara memindai dan memilih sehingga perlu lebih banyak berlatih pada langkah-langkah tersebut. Temuan umum menunjukkan bahwa strategi 4S merupakan cara yang baik untuk meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa SMA. Penelitian selanjutnya sebaiknya mencoba strategi ini pada kelas lain, dengan teks yang berbeda, dan menggunakan tes pra dan pasca untuk memberikan bukti yang lebih meyakinkan tentang efektivitasnya.
